Julian Plenti at the First Unitarian Church 11/27/2009

Interpol‘s lead man, Paul Banks, brought his solo project Julian Plenti to the basement of the First Unitarian Church for the last show of his 10 show tour in support of his debut solo record, Julian Plenti Is…..Sckyscraper . Considering Banks and his three Interpol mates put out one of my favorite records of all time, 2002′s Turn On The Bright Lights, it was a treat to see him in such a small, intimate venue.

Even though it was not Interpol, his performance as Julian Plenti was still excellent. Banks played all the songs off Julian Plenti is…..Skyscraper with a few covers thrown in. The songs translated much better live than they did on the record. His supporting band were a very weird bunch compared to his serious looking Interpol bandmates. They looked like they were just randomly thrown together especially the guitarist. He was a little bit of a distraction: he mouthed every word, he had a Hitler style mustache and he was rowdy next to the very calm Banks. That being said, the guy absolutely ripped on the guitar, which I guess makes up for his obnoxious self.

At the end of the evening, Mr. Banks thanked the crowd for a wonderful evening and declared them as the best audience of the tour. They were very loud and made sure to show their appreciation for his music. Photos/setlist below.

  1. Haha, I thought I would see these pictures up soon. I was right in front of Paul. Such great music in one evening. It was indeed a fun show.

    Cheers.
