First Sign Of Jónsi Birgisson’s Solo Material: “Boy Lilikoi”

Last March, my good friend Michael and I took a trip to Connecticut to hang out with producer Peter Katis(Interpol, The National, The Swell Season, more) for the day. Mr. Katis invited us into his home and treated us well. We didn’t expect to get too many juicy details out of him but we ended getting some insider information. Katis mentioned in the interview that he was working on a solo record with Sigur Rós‘s front man, Jónsi Birgisson, and compser Nico Muhly(Grizzly Bear, Antony and the Johnsons, more). He didn’t say much expect that, “It’s going to be a largely acoustic guitar record but also with a lot of ‘out there’ string arrangements…strings, woodwinds, brass, and double bass, actually.” This caused a lot of speculation through the internet world thanks to Pitchfork and other music blogs. Several months later, we finally get to listen to a song off the record, which we now know we’ll be titled, Go.

To listen to the new song, “Boy Lilikoi”, just head over to Jónsi’s website for a free download. All you need to do is sign-up for the mailing list to get the free MP3. I recommend that you do so. It has a Sigur Rós feel to it but it’s still independent from the band’s sound. Jónsi continues to stray away from his Hopelandic style of singing and dabbles in English. We’ll have to wait just a little longer to hear the entire record.
