YAWN played the First Unitarian Church on Wednesday night(photos)
Chicago four-piece YAWN played the First Unitarian Church on Wednesday night opening up for Tame Impala and Yuck(unfortunately, I was not able to stick around for their sets.) It was their first time playing Philly, but not their first time in the city. Last time they were here, they were actually cut from the bill because the power at the Church kept coming out. Despite that shaky first Philly experience, the band took full advantage of their opening slot.
In front of a pretty packed crowd, YAWN played songs from their EP as well new songs which will be on their upcoming full length(due out sometime this summer). The best way to describe their music is very Animal Collective-ish. You can tell their music is heavily influenced by the band, but much more accessible to the listener. Check out their video for “Kind Of Guy” below and you can actually grab their EP for FREE over at their bandcamp page. I highly recommend it; it will not disappoint. Their music is perfect for this beautiful Philly weather. Live photos by Michael James Murray
