POPPED! Music Festival announces 2011 lineup
Finally. Philadelphia has a legitimate, big time music festival to be proud of. Yes, The Roots Picnic brings in a notable lineup, but it lacks the festival atmosphere. Luckily for all of us, POPPED! Music Festival has stepped up to take over that role. The festival, which will take place at FDR Park on September 23rd-24th, will bring the likes of The Shins, Panda Bear, Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Cults, The Pains Of Being Pure at Heart, and many more, to the city. Tickets for the festival are available now and can be found HERE. (They’re a reasonable price, too!). Check out the lineup below.

BRAIDS announce North American tour dates + playing Philly in September
The young Montreal band BRAIDS announced their very first headlining tour of North America last week. The last time they were here in Philadelphia, the band opened for chill-wave bro Toro Y Moi at the Church. Now the four piece are set to come back to our city to play the same venue. It’s a well-deserved headlining slot for the Canadians after they spent the majority of the year opening for various acts playing the songs off their very well received debut album Native Speaker. If you haven’t heard it yet, check out a few songs after the jump.
Their show will be on Wednesday, September 7th at the First Unitarian Church. Tickets for the show can be found HERE.
RIP Clarence Clemons
Clarence and Bruce on the cover of Born To Run
If you haven’t heard the news yet, Clarence Clemons, the saxophonist of the E Street Band, passed away at the age of 69 last night. Details below. I’m glad I had the opportunity to see play live along with Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band at the Spectrum in the fall of 2009. It was an absolutely fantastic show. RIP Big Man.
“It is with overwhelming sadness that we inform our friends and fans that at 7:00 tonight, Saturday, June 18, our beloved friend and bandmate, Clarence Clemons passed away. The cause was complications from his stroke of last Sunday, June 12th.
Bruce Springsteen said of Clarence: Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly forty years. He was my great friend, my partner, and with Clarence at my side, my band and I were able to tell a story far deeper than those simply contained in our music. His life, his memory, and his love will live on in that story and in our band.” – via Bruce Springsteen’s website
Battles add tour dates including a Philly show on Halloween(tickets on sale now)
Battles, a mostly instrumental-experimental-math rock band from NYC, just released their sophomore album Gloss Drop last week via Warp Records. It’s their first release without former front man, Tyondai Braxton, who left the band last summer. The two videos below filmed the amazingly talented people at La Blogotheque feature the trio playing songs off the new record in a beautiful, old hotel in Paris.
The band also just extended their already lengthy tour across North America and Europe. One of the new additions to the tour is a date at the TLA in Philly on Monday, October 31st aka Halloween. Tickets for the show are on sale and can be found HERE.
